Tulsi is one of the many plants used in Vastu that gather and disperse good energy. This sacred plant can be kept in the north, northeast, and east of the home. However, you should refrain from planting anything around the garden’s perimeter, not just Tulsi every plant has their own identity but it only flourishes when they are in the the correct direction according to Vatu Shastra.

Five Elements of Vastu Shastra

Vastu Shastra is composed of five elements. They have their specific meaning and role. Also, their workability in architecture is immense.

Bhumi

Our planet Earth, also known as Bhumi, possesses a magnetic force and is made up of poles, namely North and South. It comprises landscapes, flora, fauna, and land, which provide the necessary raw materials for construction purposes. To eliminate any negative energies surrounding construction, a ritual called Bhumi poojan is performed.

Water

Water, represented by rivers, seas, rain, and other bodies, is a vital element for all living beings. It constitutes a part of every animal and plant, and is crucial to sustaining life. The type of ecosystem and life forms are dependent on the correlation between water and Earth.

Air

Air is essential to support life and is made up of multiple elements, including dust particles and humidity. It is divided into appropriate proportions and is responsible for regulating our body surface via the skin, blood system, and respiration. Air also signifies movement, and its purity is essential for a healthy brain, body, and blood.

Fire

The element of Fire (Aag) represents heat, with the Sun being its primary source. The Sun is not only responsible for day and night but also for seasons. It symbolizes enthusiasm, vigor, and passion, and contributes to the mental well-being of individuals, acting as a prime energy source. Various regions with distinct climates have unique cultures, and the Sun plays a role in their natural progression.

Akash

The element of Akash provides emotional comfort and intellectual shelter. It includes forces, heat, light, magnetic fields, flora, and fauna, all of which combine to form an ideal habitat for abundant living and growth. 

The directions in Vastu Shastra 

 East

The East direction is ruled by the Sun, and it is essential to keep this direction open to let the light in. Doing so attracts affluence and prosperity. Issues with the East direction can lead to disputes between father and son and health problems.

West

In Vastu Shastra, the West direction is ruled by Saturn, and if there are any issues in this direction, it may affect the functioning of electrical appliances and cause air-borne diseases, as well as pain in the legs and bones. 

North

The North direction is governed by Mercury, and it is associated with wealth, money, and profits. If there are negative energies in this direction, it may lead to financial troubles, nose and throat diseases, and other obstacles. 

South

The South direction is ruled by Mars, and it is related to legal matters and relationships. If there are any Vastu Dosha or troubles in this direction, it may cause issues in legal matters and with elder brothers. Additionally, it may also lead to blood-related diseases in family members.

North-East (Ishan) Direction

According to Vastu Shastra, Jupiter is the ruler of Ishan Kon, which is considered the purest and most untainted direction. The Gods govern this direction, and it is essential to keep it clean and free from any garbage or dirty objects. Any Vastu Dosha in this direction can lead to wealth deterioration and family problems. Therefore, it is crucial to maintain the cleanliness of this direction to avoid any negative consequences.

North-West (Vayavya) Direction

The Moon governs the North-West direction, and its unfavorable position can bring about certain issues. You may suffer from disputes with your neighbors, and your mother’s health may deteriorate most of the time. Additionally, unmarried females may face delays in marriage, while other ailments such as mental stress, cough, and cold may also be present..

South-East (Agneya) Direction

According to Vastu Shastra, the Agneya direction, which is associated with the fire element, is ruled by Venus. As a result, it is highly recommended to construct the kitchen in this direction. 

South-West (Nairutya) Direction

According to Vastu Shastra, Rahu governs the South-West direction of a house. Hence, it is recommended to have the master bedroom in the Nairutya direction to avoid defects in this area. 

Brahma Sthana

As the name suggests, Lord Brahma governs the Brahma Sthana, which is the central part of your house. It’s crucial to keep this area spacious, accessible, and clean, as Vastu Dosha in this area can create obstacles in life and lead to frequent illnesses in the family. In severe situations, the residents may even be influenced by paranormal occurrences. Therefore, it’s essential to keep the Brahma Sthana light and uncluttered to prevent such issues.
